5 Reasons Why Wood Picture frames is Better than Metal Frames

The moment we see a wooden frame with a painting or a photograph in it, it just gives us a warm feeling. A photo frame should be such that it complements the picture or photograph inside the frame. Wooden picture frames are have been in demand for a very long time. The first of metal picture frames were made in 1950 in the New York City in the Museum of modern art. 1968 saw the emergence of use of metal moldings in a kit form. Anodizing work to the aluminum moldings also started subsequently. Metal picture also have been in use but not as much as the wooden ones.

Metal frames have their own usage especially because of its durability and flexibility of use. They are available in a number of styles such as brass picture frames, pewter picture frames, chrome picture frames, silver and sterling silver picture frames. These can be used both in formal as well as simple surroundings.

There are some rustic picture frames made of metal which look marvelous. Metal picture frames sure give a clean and a direct look to the picture. Probably these are more suited for offices and places of scientific importance.  However the wooden ones are more popular. There are a number of reasons for it. The first and foremost reason is that a wooden frame has a lot of scope of decoration in terms of design, style, colors, additional adornments and many more. Even unfinished wood looks beautiful on certain kind of photographs. Beautiful carvings can be made on wood.

The second aspect where wooden frames are better is that wood is available in different colors as compared to metal frames. The colors available in metal are limited. The number of ways in which metal frames can be decorated is also very limited. The texture of wood retains the natural beauty of the original wood whereas this is not possible in case of metal frames.

The third reason why wooden frames are more popular is because the rear portion of the wooden frames is sealed properly and a dust cover protects the picture. This way the picture or the painting is not likely to get spoiled by anything.

Another aspect that places wooden picture frames slightly above the metal ones is that finish of wood can be altered easily. But in case of metal frames this may not always be possible. This keeps the picture open to attack from all kinds of factors such as dust, humidity, insects and ultraviolet light. So therefore more maintenance will be required.

Lastly wooden frames are lighter and can easily be transported from one place to another. They can be moved if one wants to simply change the position of the photograph. On the other hand the metallic picture frames are usually heavy and if the painting or the portrait is huge then moving such frames single handedly becomes very difficult.

Wooden frames are not just better than metal frames but they have a sense of novelty about them which adds value to the picture or painting contained in it.
